Only About 15 Days Left Until the Sale

Posted on May 30, 2014May 30, 2014 by admin2

rummage_sale[1]Below is a message from village resident Barb Webster.

I’m including 3 documents I’d like you to look over.

  1. 2014 Address-only list
  2. Example of 2013 Flyer
  3. 2014 Flyer for Posting

The first is a list of the addresses participating in the sale as of today. I’m expecting a couple more. For the sake of privacy (if there is such a thing anymore) I didn’t want to add info as to who lived at which address, but for the purpose of keeping my sanity, please be sure your address is listed and let me know right away if there’s a problem.

The second is an example of how last year’s flyer was set up that was given out at each house so customers knew what other houses to visit. Each address will be in a left hand column. Particular items you want to sell will follow your address. I am going to be out of town for about five days between now and the sale date, so please let me know what (if anything) you want listed no later than June 8th. Last year we had about 12 homes participating. This year we’ll have at least 25 so the sheet will be run front and back. For those I don’t hear from, I’ll put “Lots of everything” or “Misc. items,” but it would be better coming from each seller.

Lastly, if you have anywhere you can post the attached general notice, let me know right away (I’m leaving 6/1) and I’ll get a couple to you.

I probably won’t be able to get the customer handout flyers to you until June 8th or 9th . During the sale, you may want to keep an eye out for your mail carrier. These won’t be his/her favorite days to deliver mail.

Times & Dates – For the newspaper ad, it has been suggested that we use 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. since dedicated rummagers start looking at the sales that start the earliest. Certainly you are under no obligation to open as early as 8:00 a.m., or to wait until 4:00 p.m. to close. The newspaper ad gets expensive, so it will say something like “ELMWOOD PARK NEIGHBORHOOD SALE” with dates, times & general directions to the village along with “25 homes and 2 bake sales. Something for everyone!” Rummagers will get a handout at the first house they stop at which will give them addresses and who has what for sale. Last year a few of the participants also ran an ad of their own.

We have a number of signs that will be put out, but we can always use more. Signs with arrows pointing your way, or maybe balloons or streamers attached to your house/mailbox are a good idea. Graduation streamers, etc. will be on sale pretty cheap soon.

Like last year, I haven’t kept track of cost for the ad, printing supplies, etc. If each participant would contribute $5.00 that would be great. (Our address is 3311 S. Elmwood.) I won’t hire a collection agent to track down anyone who chooses not to contribute.

Let me know if you have any questions/problems. I confess I don’t look at my e-mail every day, and I will be gone for 5 days, but I promise to get back to you as soon as possible. Our phone number is 598-9538. My husband will be home, and he knows as much about this event as I do, so feel free to call.
